At Expo 2025 Osaka, Portugal invited the world into “Ocean — The Blue Dialogue”: an exhibition connecting the country’s maritime heritage, almost five centuries of exchange with Japan and a shared responsibility for the Ocean’s future.
Working with MUSE — Museums & Expos, we created immersive installations, interactive applications, inclusive solutions and digital experiences. Ancient maps come alive, animated Namban screens revisit the encounter between two cultures, and interactive islands reveal Portugal’s work in conservation, ocean science and renewable energy.
Inside the second immersive room, a discreet real-time layer reacts to each visitor’s presence and movement across a 360° projection. Augmented and virtual reality extensions carry the Pavilion beyond the physical exhibition, including into Expo 2025’s virtual world.
Over 184 days, the Portugal Pavilion welcomed 2,355,616 visitors and received three international distinctions, including the award for best theme. One continuous story brought culture, technology and environmental awareness together through the voice of the Ocean.
