For the Municipality of Arouca and Arouca Geopark, we created an immersive virtual reality experience that enables visitors to cross the iconic 516 Arouca Bridge through natural body movement.

A standard treadmill was transformed into an interactive platform using custom hardware and software developed specifically for the project. Every step taken by the visitor advances the journey, creating a direct and intuitive connection between physical movement and the virtual world.

Real 360° imagery captured for the experience recreates the bridge and its dramatic setting above the Paiva River. Contextual content appears naturally along the route, revealing the bridge’s engineering, history and surrounding landscape without interrupting immersion.

Hardware, software, 360° capture, interaction design and storytelling were conceived as one integrated system. The result is a highly realistic virtual crossing that turns an iconic place into an engaging tourism experience — one step at a time.
