Thirteen territories became gateways into the people, battles and landscapes that shaped the French Invasions of Portugal.
Led by CIM Região de Coimbra, Napoleonic Itineraries connects historic places affected by the first and third French Invasions through one coherent augmented and virtual reality narrative.
Across the thirteen participating municipalities and partner territories, visitors encounter defining episodes such as the Siege of Almeida, the Battle of Bussaco, the Battles of Roliça and Vimeiro, and the defence of the Lines of Torres Vedras. Each place becomes a doorway into a story that unfolded there.
To reconstruct lost and transformed settings, we combined historical and visual research with on-site photogrammetry and detailed 3D production. In total, the project involved thirteen scenarios, seventy-two characters and more than 500 assets, with uniforms and environments developed alongside historical specialists.
A location-aware mobile app activates augmented reality at points of interest, while virtual reality experiences place visitors inside key events. Available in Portuguese, Spanish, French and English, the project turns military heritage into an accessible, active journey through Portugal’s history.
