A GIFT WRAPPED IN MYSTERY

A VR animated short explores memory, family and nature through painterly three-dimensional worlds.

Created for MONSTRA 2024 and premiered during the festival’s opening ceremony, “The Girl Who Speaks with the Wild-ish Horses” was our first animated short film conceived for virtual reality.

In a secluded mountain house, a young mother awaits the birthday on which she believes she will inherit the ability to speak with wild-ish horses. A revelation changes how her family understands that tradition, opening a story about life, loss, love and the bonds between generations.

Every character and setting was built in 3D, then shaped with shaders and textures inspired by watercolour and traditional painting. Dynamic animation carries the viewer between the warmth of the house and an ethereal forest where time, memory and nature gently overlap.

Original music by Noiserv and a carefully designed soundscape deepen the 360° world. The result is an intimate VR film in which the seen and unseen meet, and a mysterious gift becomes a meditation on what families truly pass on.
