Inside Fafe’s former railway station, local memory, living culture and a greener future unfold through interactive experiences.

The Memory Station is an interpretative museum inside Fafe’s emblematic former railway station, decommissioned since 1986. Three capsule carriages and an exhibition area transform the building into a journey through the municipality’s past, present and future.

The first carriage returns to rural Fafe and to the emigrants who left for Brazil before investing their fortunes and cultural influence back in the city. Original suitcases reveal changing stories when opened, while an interactive memorial connects visitors with people, documents and defining episodes from local history.

In the second carriage, an immersive audiovisual landscape moves into the present. A symbolic clock connects generations as the narrative travels through Fafe’s culture, economy and territory — from Rally de Portugal and the oak forest to Queimadela Dam and the Santa Rita Hydroelectric Plant.

The final carriage looks towards sustainability. Four Vitelinhas shared bicycles become controllers in a timed game where visitors generate energy, watch their results live and discover regional environmental practices. Technology serves one continuous idea: making Fafe something visitors can live and feel.
